Mercy Ministries
We are called to care for one another and love one another in the world but specifically in our church family as well. Do you feel led to serve or have a need? Below are ways Gashland ministers to our members, regular attenders, and those who walk-in with needs.
Compassion Meals
If you, or someone you know, are in need of a meal or more (perhaps due to a new birth, an illness or just a difficult time of life), this ministry would love to serve. If you love to cook and like to share, this ministry may be for you.
Memorial Meals
Provides and serves a meal at the church to families after funeral services celebrating the life of a loved one.
Compassion Wheels
Provides transportation for members who find themselves in need of a ride. The specific reasons are varied, but often include doctor’s appointments, therapy, or inability to drive due to recent surgery/injury. More than a taxi service, this ministry can begin amazing connections within the body of the church.
Visitation to Assisted Living Residents, Home-Bound Friends & Communion Delivery
The Care Team would appreciate your assistance in notifying us of former members or church attenders who are no longer able to join us in church because they are home or facility bound and would enjoy visits or phone calls. In addition, if anyone in our church family has a close relative who is unable to attend church or resides in a facility and would benefit from on-going visits or phone calls we would like to know as well. Quarterly communion will be delivered if they wish.
Also, if you have a heart for those who are confined to their homes or a care facility, consider brightening their day with a visit or a phone call. Join a team of caring members who bring joy to those who cannot get out. We would love to have you!
Contact Kay Bowin at 816.519.7575 or kbowin@aol.com or Barb Lynn at barblynn0990@gmail.com to add someone to the visit or phone list or to volunteer.
Pastoral Aid
This critical calling ministry is set up to notify or remind the church body of special events and important information including deaths, congregational meetings, and other special functions.
Service Bank
A centralized of information designed to identify and mobilize the skills and gifts of the congregation. If you have time, and are willing to render services to someone in need, consider supplying this information to the service bank. Services could include, but are not limited to, transportation, meals, child care, yard work, shopping assistance, light housework, home repair, carpentry, car repair, appliance repair, etc.
Donations
Occasionally, non-members of GEPC find themselves in need, and walk-in requesting help with food, hygiene products, and baby items. Since only a limited supply of these items can be kept in stock at the church, intermittent donations are necessary. Volunteers willing to donate to this ministry are placed on a list and contacted as requests come in. Please email Mercy team at mercy@gashland.org to be placed on this contact list.
