Families play a critical role in God’s kingdom and the call to make disciples. They are the primary means God uses to disciple the next generation.
“He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children, that the next generation might know them, that the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments.”
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
God calls parents to raise their children in the faith, to disciple them, and to instruct them in the ways of His Word. We recognize that this task is a weighty one. It may cause you to feel overwhelmed, fearful and stressed. But we want you to know that you are not alone.
First and foremost, we must remember that we serve a God who is in control and who has a deep and passionate love to provide and care for your children. Secondly, it is our heart at Gashland EPC to come alongside you as parents and help you disciple your children.
Our mission statement for family ministries is “Equip. Disciple. Worship.” We want to equip parents to disciple their children so that God may be worshipped from one generation to the next.

As parents we know that God has called us to disciple our children. But questions remain… How do we disciple our kids? What does that actually look like? How does does discipleship change as our kids mature and get older?
What you will find in this Family Discipleship Guide is a practical and easy approach to discipling your children in everyday life. We have broken down family discipleship into four basic categories: 1) Reading the Word; 2) Prayer; 3) Everyday Moments; and 4) Family Worship. We believe that each one of these categories is essential to discipling your children and raising them in the faith.
Therefore, in the following guide you will find an explanation of each of these categories and then some practical ways to apply each of those categories for your child’s specific age group. These are things that anybody can do and that you can implement even in the midst of busy schedules.
