Outreach Ministries

GEPC wants to be a redeeming force locally, city-wide, and globally. We support a number of local ministries at various levels and support many missionaries around the world. Join us in serving where you may feel led!

Local Outreach

At Gashland EPC our emphasis and focus in local outreach is in our partnerships with the local schools that surround us: Gashland Elementary, Clardy Elementary, and Oak Park High School. We strive to be the kind of neighbor that Jesus calls us to be. We are eager for our community to know and be transformed by the gospel of Jesus. Please, come and join us as we seek to serve our local schools, bless our community, and give glory to the name of Jesus.

  • Donate

There are many items that you can donate to support Gashland Elementary. They are regularly in need of crayons (24 pack), socks, sweatpants, and underwear (sizes 4-7 and 8-10). We also try to provide school supplies for families in need of assistance. Click here for a link to the school supply list for Gashland Elementary. Feel free to drop off donations at the Gashland EPC office.

  • Write Encouraging Notes

We frequently write encouraging notes to the teachers at Gashland Elementary. Contact the Outreach Team at outreach@gashland.org to sign up to help write encouraging notes.

  • Provide Coffee and Bagels for Staff

Once a month we seek to love and bless the staff at Gashland Elementary by providing bagels and coffee for the staff. Please contact the Outreach Team at outreach@gashland.org if you are willing to help!

  • Run the KC Marathon

In an effort to raise funds for Gashland Elementary, we are running the Kansas City Marathon (5k, 10k, half marathon or full marathon). Go to www.gashland.org/kcmarathon for more details on how you can raise money for our local school through giving, running, or both!

  • Volunteer in the YouthFriends program

A great way to get involved at Gashland Elementary is to sign up to be a part of the YouthFriends program. It is here where you can make a huge difference in the life of Gashland Elementary Students by volunteering as a lunch buddy or as a tutor. This is a weekly commitment of 1-2 hours during the school year. For more information, click here.

  • Volunteer at Breakaway

During the summer Gashland EPC puts on a summer camp for kids in our community called Breakaway! Breakaway is a 5 day faith-based sports camp where kids will learn sports, the gospel story, and character. Our goal is to interweave the gospel into everything we do in camp so that as kids learn new skills for basketball, soccer, and volleyball they will also be learning precious truths about the gospel. Camp is for ages 5-12. Breakaway will go from 8:00am to 12:30pm every day. The cost of the camp is $25 and includes a free lunch every day and a t-shirt. For more information or to register check out www.gashland.org/breakaway. Breakaway is a camp that is Gashland created and Gashland run! There are many ways to volunteer and help out at Breakaway. Contact the outreach team at outreach@gashland.org to serve!

  • Serve at Trunk or Treat

Another way we seek to bless the community is through Trunk or Treat! This safe alternative to going door-to-door on Halloween takes place in the GEPC parking lot. Church members and neighbors set up their cars, decorate their trunks and children go trunk-to-trunk for candy. It is a wonderful evening event where your children can safely get candy, your family can eat a free meal, and you can engage with a neighbor at the same time. Contact the outreach team if you are interesting in serving at outreach@gashland.org.

Local Missions

We support 4 local missions organizations: City Union Mission, Hillcrest Ministries, Rachael House, and Light House. See details below for more information. Also check out the Gashland Link to stay up to date on the latest collection needs for these organizations!

City Union Mission

Since 1924, City Union Mission has provided warm beds, nutritious food, and a place for safety for thousands of poverty stricken and homeless men, women, and children. The Mission’s staff has been uncompromising in the commitment to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the hurting and the lost.

City Union Mission has full and part-time paid positions available on an ongoing basis. They also have needs of people to partner with them in Ministry in a variety of ways. These require a commitment of from just a few hours to a few days to support seasonal events.

One easy way to serve City Union Mission at our church on a monthly basis is to help prepare sandwiches from 9:30-10:30 on the 2nd Tuesday of the month in the Fellowship Hall.

Hillcrest Hope

Hillcrest Transitional Housing offers homeless families, singles and youth a disciplined educational program within a caring, supportive environment. Unlike many organizations whose focus is one-time or emergency care, Hillcrest’s primary objective is to move clients from homelessness to self-sufficiency by addressing the total life situation of the homeless families they serve.

Gashland sponsors an apartment for those trying to transition out of homelessness. You can help by stocking the apartment with groceries, participating on the cleaning crew and loving on the family.   Contact the missions team if you are interested in helping out at missions@gashland.org.

Rachael House

“Rachel House creates a culture of life for every woman who comes to us. She experiences the compassion of Christ through volunteers and staff who help meet her physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Rachel House shares the truth about abortion and empowers her to choose life for her unborn baby through services, counseling and abortion education. We offer every client the opportunity to pray and share the Gospel with those open to hearing.” If you are interested in supporting Rachael House please contact the Missions Committee at missions@gashland.org.

Foreign Missions

We support several foreign missionaries! Check out our missions board at the church to see more information about our missionaries and to send them a personalized message through the iPad. You can also find out about our missionaries on Sunday Mornings in the printed link and during the announcements through our Missionary of the Month Highlight.
